BALTIMORE, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- As community support and interest grows for the Senator Theatre benefit concert scheduled for the weekend of February 13, so too does the lineup. What began as a Friday night "Fillmore-style rock revue with an arts twist", as conceived by Baltimore band The Payola Reserve and their management, has now expanded into a full weekend of events, with widespread support from local businesses and community organizations.
The event began in-part as a reaction to news about a possible city offer to help buy out a portion of the Senator's debt as efforts continue to gain momentum to transition the venue into a non-profit multipurpose arts and entertainment facility. "We set out to demonstrate some new uses and audiences for this historic landmark," said promoter Sean Brescia of Manifesto Promotions. "People have known about the Senator's ongoing financial troubles for some time now, but this is about the community stepping up to show the city, and even a national audience, that the Senator and irreplaceable arts and entertainment assets like it around the country are worthy of public and private support to preserve and transition them to new uses for the future."
That message is prevailing with local businesses and community organizations who are getting involved to help make the event a success. Well-known national and international concert audio vendor MSI is providing state-of-the-art sound in sponsorship, and local restaurants, including the Golden West Cafe of Hamden, have agreed to lend promotional support and concessions.
Building on the music revue theme, local radio legends Rob Timm and Alex Cortright of WRNR will host the Friday evening show, helping to kick-off the full weekend of entertainment with some added publicity.
Organizers are working to continue to add acts to the bill as a wave of interest from local entertainers has developed, however, an already confirmed current lineup includes:
